The Y was founded on the principles of building a healthy mind, body, and spirit. Often that means digging a little deeper than simply exercise to address the needs of systemic wellness. Our wellness therapies are the perfect complement to our exercise programs and will help you take your health to the next level.

MASSAGE THERAPY

Our certified massage therapists specialize in several massage therapy techniques:

Swedish massage: A style of massage that works with the rhythm of the breath to gently yet effectively ease into areas of tightness while delivering less intensity than a deep tissue massage. Swedish massage utilizes five techniques: effleurage, petrissage, tapotement, friction/cross-fiber, and vibration to loosen muscle tension.

Trigger point therapy: Often referred to as a “knot”, a trigger point is a hypersensitive spot in a muscle that can refer pain locally or to another area of the body. These referral patterns are specifically mapped out and may even be the key to finding underlying causes of chronic pain. Trigger point therapy is a targeted massage approach that helps to loosen the tension in knots and bring pain relief and increased range of motion.

Cupping: A traditional Chinese modality nicknamed for the small suction cups used—and known for its distinctive temporary circular marks—cupping has become popular as a highly effective therapy for athletes and those who suffer from chronic pain. It offers quick improvement in circulation and can be achieved with various techniques and equipment. A thorough health history screening and signed release form will be required.

Minor’s massage: Introducing safe, healthy options for self-care early in life is paramount for building a sense of well-being and providing support for ongoing mental and physical health. Massage for minors is an age-appropriate and effective treatment for participants under the age of 18. A parental release form will be required, and sessions will be supervised by a legal guardian.

FASCIAL STRETCH THERAPY

Fascial Stretch Therapy (FST) is a type of 1-on-1 assisted stretching that targets the connective tissue—or fascia—surrounding muscles, bones, and joints. It involves gentle movements and stretches that help to improve mobility, flexibility, and overall physical performance. The benefits of FST include reduced muscle tension and pain, increased range of motion, improved posture, and enhanced athletic performance. It can also help to improve circulation, reduce inflammation, and promote relaxation and stress relief. Compared to traditional stretching, FST is typically more targeted and personalized, as it is performed by a certified therapist who can customize the stretches based on your individual needs and limitations. FST also involves a variety of techniques, including traction and oscillation, which help to release tension in the fascia and improve its elasticity. FST is a safe and effective way to improve your flexibility and mobility, reduce pain and tension, and enhance your overall physical performance and well-being.

SLEEP + STRESS COACHING

If you strive to be a more engaged parent, partner, or professional, have faster recovery times between workouts, and an overall improved sense of health, ­it all starts with the number one recovery rock star: SLEEP.

Ideally, we should be getting between seven and nine hours of sleep most nights. Poor sleep habits, stress, and lifestyle often prevent us from doing so. Since sleep and stress go hand in hand, managing both simultaneously can help improve mood, memory and cognitive function, increase energy and attention span, aid with weight management, and lead to a deeper overall well-being.

Certified Sleep, Stress Management and Recovery Coach Tammy Juco will work with you to enhance your sleep hygiene, develop and implement a pre-sleep ritual, and teach you skills to develop healthy behaviors for an overall deeper health.

MINDFULNESS MEDITATION COACHING

Mindfulness meditation is the practice of paying close attention to our thoughts, feelings, bodily sensations, and actions with kindness and without judgment. It can effectively enhance our understanding of how thoughts and actions create stress and impact our quality of life. Over time, we can develop our innate capacity to live with more clarity, openness, and joy. With the help of mindfulness coaching, your intrinsic, non-judgmental quality of attention is strengthened, transforming your responses to stressful situations and enhancing your quality of life. By developing an understanding of where you’ve been, where you are now, and where you’re going, a mindfulness practice plan can be developed that works for you.

The first session of coaching is exploratory and will look into your understanding of mindfulness, your internal and external life circumstances, and identify what brings you happiness and what causes stress. If you feel that the coaching session was helpful and you want to continue, next steps and set up additional sessions will then be discussed.

YOGA

Learn the “ins and outs” of Yoga postures. The practice of yoga improves our well-being, not just physically, but on all levels: physiologically, mentally, emotional and spiritually. Yoga is to be experienced. All are welcome to join.   

GENTLE YOGA

Vinyasa poses incorporate breathing and relaxation to increase flexibility, strength and balance to reduce stress.

HATHA YOGA

Experience the transformative power of moving mediation by practicing various yoga postures with a focus on creating awareness gaining strength and increasing flexibility. 

GENTLE HATHA YOGA

This form of Hatha Yoga practice involves breath, body, and mind, with poses not as strenuous as in a traditional yoga class.
