JOB TITLE: Membership Representative
LOCATION: Ridgewood, NJ
REPORTS TO: VP of Membership + Mission Advancement
DURATION: Part-Time (Non-Exempt)
SALARY: $16.50 per hour

POSITION SUMMARY:
As a Membership Representative, you’ll be the welcoming face of the Y—greeting members, guests, and program participants both in person and over the phone with warmth and care. You’ll help prospective members feel at home by providing informative tours and guiding them through the membership process, while maintaining a clean and inviting lobby space. By fostering meaningful connections among members and encouraging involvement in programs and volunteer opportunities, you’ll help strengthen our community. You’ll also handle membership questions and concerns with patience and professionalism, always ensuring YMCA policies are followed. This role is all about creating an inclusive, supportive environment where everyone feels valued and connected.

JOB FUNCTION:

  • Respond thoughtfully to the individual needs of each member and guest.
  • Provide excellent customer service in person and over the phone, helping to create a welcoming atmosphere that supports member retention.
  • Keeps the lobby area clean, organized, and inviting.
  • Conduct tours for prospective members and assist them with membership and program questions.
  • Build and nurture positive relationships with members and volunteers, encouraging connections within the Ridgewood Y community.
  • Create a sense of belonging by warmly welcoming, connecting with, and supporting members, while inviting them to participate and give back.
  • Handle and resolve membership questions and concerns promptly, and keep the supervisor informed of any unusual situations or unresolved issues.
  • Follow and apply all YMCA policies related to member services.
  • Ensure all visitors are properly checked in by scanning them into the Raptor Security system.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Previous customer service, sales, or related experience.
  • CPR/AED and First Aid Certifications required within 90 days of hire.
  • Ability to relate effectively to diverse groups of people from all social and economic segments of the community
  • Excellent interpersonal and problem-solving skills.
  • Basic knowledge of computers.
