PAYRATE: $17.00 Hourly

POSITION SUMMARY:
The Fitness Floor Staff plays an essential role in delivering a safe, clean, and engaging experience for YMCA members. Reporting to the Fitness Center Coordinator, this position is responsible for supporting daily operations on the fitness floor, assisting members with equipment usage, enforcing safety protocols, and fostering a positive, inclusive environment that reflects the Y’s commitment to youth development, healthy living, and social responsibility.
JOB FUNCTION:
- Instruct members on safe and effective exercise techniques using various equipment, including but not limited to weight machines, cardio equipment, and free weights.
- Provide guidance and answer member questions to support their health and wellness goals.
- Motivate and assist members with their fitness routines, offering encouragement and expertise.
- Build authentic and supportive relationships with members, helping foster a strong sense of community within the YMCA.
- Ability to build genuine relationships with members and guests and maintain a welcoming environment with people.
- Assist with spotting during weightlifting to ensure member safety.
- Monitor member activity and ensure adherence to YMCA safety policies; positively reinforce safety protocols.
- Conduct regular walkthroughs of the Fitness Center to ensure a safe and welcoming environment.
- Promptly report equipment issues to the Fitness Center Coordinator and help maintain cleanliness and order in the Fitness Center.
- Complete the Fitness Floor Checklist, ensuring all equipment is cleaned and maintained properly.
- Complete opening and/or closing checklists as required, and sign off each shift.
- Adhere to YMCA policies and procedures, and respond appropriately to emergency situations.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Must be at least 18 years of age
- High school diploma or equivalent required
- CPR, First Aid, and AED certification (or willingness to obtain within 30 days of hire)
- Basic knowledge of fitness equipment and safe exercise techniques
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills; ability to engage and motivate members
- Customer service experience preferred, especially in a fitness or wellness setting
- Ability to recognize and respond to safety and emergency situations
- Enthusiastic, dependable, and committed to the YMCA’s mission and values.
WORK ENVIRONMENT AND PHYSICAL CONDITIONS:
- The noise level in the work environment is typically moderate, consistent with a busy fitness center.
- Must be able to stand, walk, bend, and reach for extended periods of time.
- Frequently required to lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
- Regularly exposed to cleaning agents and disinfectants while maintaining equipment and facility cleanliness.
- May be exposed to bodily fluids while responding to injuries or assisting in emergencies.
- Must be able to visually and audibly observe members to ensure safety and compliance with YMCA policies.
- Must be able to respond quickly and effectively to emergency situations.
