At the Y, we believe that real change starts in our own communities—and it happens because of people like you. Across our service areas of northern New Jersey and Hunterdon County, volunteers help deliver programs and services that uplift, empower, and strengthen our neighbors every day.

Whether you’re a business leader, student, parent, teacher, or simply someone who cares, there’s a place for you to give back at the Y. Volunteering here means more than lending a hand—it’s about building connections, growing as a person, and being part of something bigger.

As a Y volunteer, you’ll have the chance to put your personal or professional skills to good use, build connections with people of all ages and backgrounds, and choose volunteer opportunities that work for you—whether that means lending a hand at a special event or making a longer-term commitment to an ongoing program.

Current Volunteer Opportunities

  • Help fight food insecurity by packing and distributing boxes at our weekly food distributions.

  • Ensure local families have what they need, right when they need it, by preparing Beyond Pantry orders for pickup.

  • Spark young imaginations by signing up as a Mystery Reader in our preschool classrooms.

  • Make a meaningful impact as a Certified Facilitator for Rainbows for All Children, our youth grief support program.

  • Support healthy living in our community by helping run exciting sporting events like the YTRI Indoor Triathlon and Ridgewood Y Breakers swim team meets.

  • Bring our community together by setting up and facilitating special events such as Healthy Kids Day, the Parkinson’s Walk, and the Community Halloween Parade.

  • Use your creativity and organizational skills by joining planning committees for our signature annual fundraisers, including the Grand Gala and Golf Outing.

  • Take on a leadership role and shape our mission by applying to join our Board of Directors or Jr. Board of Directors.
