Welcome to our Spring Session! A note from Ernest Lamour, CEO
Dear Valued Members & Community Supporters,
We have just completed a successful Winter Session at the Ridgewood YMCA and are pleased to share highlights of the past few months:
Our members generously supported two social service organizations with donations over the holidays this year. The first was in support of the Center for Food Action’s Thanksgiving food drive! In December, members donated gifts to the Social Service Association of Ridgewood’s “Season of Giving” holiday pajama drive for children in our community.
We launched a new 7th grade initiative in December which provides a free Triangle teen membership to 7th graders to encourage lifelong healthy habits. We are happy to report that over 85 teens have signed up to date!
In order to better serve our members, we recently launched a new Nationwide Membership initiative which allows our Y members to have the flexibility to use participating Y facilities across the United States at no extra charge! Perfect when traveling for business, commuting or on vacation in order to stay on track with your fitness routine.
We launched an AARP/Healthy Contributions special membership for seniors.
We expanded our Health & Wellness offerings to include additional personal training sessions and nutrition counseling. Our new Registered Dietitian, Caroline Schmalz, is available to counsel members on setting and achieving healthy eating goals.
We started a Family Friendly group exercise program to encourage our tween members ages 12+ to participate in classes.
Participation in our January Open House was phenomenal and resulted in many new people interested in learning more about our Y community! It was an action packed, day with family swim, STEM and enrichment activities for youth, group exercise classes, Y CEO basketball free throw challenge and pickle ball games, healthy snacks and a chance for our Y staff to engage with our visitors!
We continued the expansion of our youth education and enrichment programs to include music, art, STEM and cooking classes!
We held several school vacation camps to help support working parents with child care during school breaks.
The Teens in Government Club kicked off their session with many enthusiastic teenagers looking to make a difference in our community and develop their leadership skills!
We hired an Assistant Aquatics Director, Kyle Gill, to train and mentor our swim instructor staff and further develop our swim curriculum.
The on-going response to our Annual Support Campaign has been wonderful and we are appreciative to all who contributed. Your donations generously support our Social Responsibility Programs which we provide at low or no cost to those in need.
We held a family Valentines event in February and over 56 adults and children joined in the festivities! Activities included making heart shaped pizzas, decorating cookies, STEM projects, arts and crafts and a fun dance party for the kids!
Looking ahead to spring, we are excited to share with you the many new programs and services we are offering for our next session. You can also support our Y with a contribution to our Annual Spring Gala https://www.501auctions.com/ridgewoodymcagala by attending or taking out an ad to support our honorees and our Social Responsibility programs.
When looking for a place to go or things to do this spring, you should look no further than the Y.
There are a number of new program offerings along with the popular favorites you have grown to love. Our Y is for all and this new schedule of classes truly represents that. We have something for everyone, from infants to seniors, across a wide spectrum of offerings.
In an effort to better serve you, our Y partnered with Triangle 2, a market research company, to conduct a market research study on our behalf. The information from this study was recently shared at our Board of Directors meeting in February. Thank you to those members who received a call and responded with their feedback. Please stay tuned for more updates on this subject.
As always, we ask that you visit our website www.ridgewoodymca.org, view our program offerings, and fill out a brief online customer survey letting us know how we may continue to serve you better.
We value you and can’t thank you enough for your unwavering support as we continue to make improvements to serve you better. In our community, a strong and thriving Y must always remain a priority destination and we will continue to challenge ourselves to achieve the goals and mission of providing great programs and services, not just for seniors, youth and their families, but for the entire community.
I look forward to seeing you and your family at our Y this spring, participating in one of our many new classes, having fun, staying healthy and making new friends!
